چکیده
Engineered Vascularized Flaps In article number 2008687, Shulamit Levenberg and co-workers fabricate composite neo-tissue flaps by combining polymeric matrices decellularized bone. These are perfused in vivo using hosts via a potent neo-vascular network. imaging is utilized to show how support long-term bone repair vascularization. This methodology may one day replace autologous tissue harvest from patients need of replacements.

Tissue engineered prefabricated vascularized flaps.
UNLABELLED BACKGROUND.: Microvascular free tissue transfer has become increasingly popular in the reconstruction of head and neck defects, but it also has its disadvantages. Tissue engineering allows the generation of neo-tissue for implantation, but these tissues are often avascular. We propose to combine tissue-engineering techniques together with flap prefabrication techniques to generate a ...
متن کاملPrimate mandibular reconstruction with prefabricated, vascularized tissue-engineered bone flaps and recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 implanted in situ.
Several studies have validated successful mandibular reconstruction with prefabricated tissue-engineered bone flaps and recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) implanted in situ. Whether rhBMP-2 applied with the prefabrication technique enables faster ossification of mandibular defects than rhBMP-2 applied in situ is unknown. We aimed to compare mandibular reconstruction with p...
متن کاملAutologously generated tissue-engineered bone flaps for reconstruction of large mandibular defects in an ovine model.
The reconstruction of large craniofacial defects remains a significant clinical challenge. The complex geometry of facial bone and the lack of suitable donor tissue often hinders successful repair. One strategy to address both of these difficulties is the development of an in vivo bioreactor, where a tissue flap of suitable geometry can be orthotopically grown within the same patient requiring ...
متن کاملVascularized calvarial bone flaps and midface reconstruction.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES After studying this article, the participant should be able to: 1. Identify the fascial layers of the temporalis region. 2. Understand the three-dimensional nature of the orbit and upper maxillectomy defects. 3. Understand the surgical harvest of temporalis flaps and temporoparietal flaps with vascularized bone. 4. Appreciate preoperative risk factors and postoperative compl...
متن کاملReconstruction of soft tissue and bone defects in lower extremity with free flaps.
This article reports our experiences treating soft tissue and bone defects in the lower extremity with free flaps. One of the most common causes for lower extremity wounds are high-energy injuries. These kinds of injuries contain soft tissue and bone defects beyond neurovascular complications. The rate of infection and nonunion is very high in these injuries. Between 1988 and 1996, we applied 3...
